SAN FRANCISCO CENTER FOR THE BOOK HOSTS
Second Annual Art Fundraiser "Roadworks: Steamroller Prints"
San Francisco, Calif.—September 14, 2005—The San Francisco Center for the Book (SFCB) hosts its second annual fundraiser, Roadworks: Steamroller Prints on Saturday, September 24, 2005 at Carolina Street between 15th and 16th, 10:00am-4:00pm. The Center's major annual fundraiser and block party brings local artists and the community together to create 3 feet by 3 feet linocut prints that are inked and pressed by a two ton steamroller. The prints will be auctioned at a silent auction party from 4:30pm-7:30pm. Roadworks: Steamroller Prints will bring together 23 local community artists who will create original linocut prints to be pressed by a steamroller. Artists include, Carl Dern, Daniel Gonzalez, Charles Hobson, Rik Olson, Laura Parker, Brad Robinson, Katherine Venturelli and more. Plus, returning artist Michael Osbourne, designer of the 2002 love stamp, will create a commemorative print for the occasion. The fun-filled day includes music by the Burning Band, straight from Burning Man, book art activities for all ages and booths featuring hand crafted book arts. Immediately following the street fair, there will be a live auction of the prints made during the day and a silent book arts auction from 4:30pm-7:30pm. "We are very excited for this year's fundraiser, said Kathy Barr, executive director of SFCB. "It is wonderful to see how the community has pulled together to help us preserve the book arts. Our Center is one-of-a-kind in providing a place for diverse artists to express themselves through the book arts." Community sponsors include: Legion Paper, Arches Paper, Mohawk Paper Mills, and Kent Rasmussen Winery in addition to several individual sponsors.
