All too often, they're unseen and under-appreciated. But the truth is, teaching assistants are magical presences who make a huge difference in the lives of students. And at the Mills College Book Arts Program, TAs are also working artists. Convergences, from January 23-February 27, gathers together recent works by these behind-the-scenes artists, showcasing projects from installation art to artist's books, literary broadsides to book design for offset printing. The show testifies to the varied energies that emerge when artists have access to an exceptional studio environment. Equally important, it demonstrates how they, in turn, respond to each other and develop as a community.
