Visit a gallery, shop or museum with book arts on display, and you've probably seen an object that we playfully call the dreaded gratuitous structure. It's something that bills itself as a book. But it's so complex, creative, elaborate or ingenious that it flouts the age-old expectation that a book's form and content should somehow be related. And forget about reading it! In this exhibition, you'll see something completely different. Curator Michelle Geiger is showcasing relevant structures, in which form genuinely supports the text, a portion of Through the Looking-Glass. The exhibition features work by members of the Pacific Center for the Book Arts. |
