Immerse yourself in five days of nothing but letterpress. This class deals in depth with the mechanics and techniques of presswork. You'll print some personal letterhead stationery, a broadside and a multicolor, single-signature chapbook conceived, designed and produced in collaboration with Mary and your classmates. The weeklong format affords time to learn the intricacies of letterspacing, printing on dampened paper, registration and more. This intensive class is the equivalent of Letterpress I - III and qualifies you to rent time on the Center's Vandercooks.

The Center makes letterpress printing as easy as 1-2-3. Start with Letterpress I, offered five times; move on to Letterpress II, offered three times; and then take Letterpress III, offered three times (once as a three-evening class). Now you're ready to print on your own. The next step is to call our studio manager at (415) 565-0545, ext. 11, and reserve time to print. She'll walk you through a checklist of printing procedures during your first day on press.

Alternatively, consider our six-week evening class, Letterpress Basics, equivalent to Letterpress I and II; Printing Poetry Letterpress, equivilant to Letterpress I; Printing on a Platen Press Iand II, which can be taken instead of Letterpress I and II. Textural Background Printing, Wood Type Posters or Print Your Own Business Cards may also be taken instead of Letterpress II.
