The Culinary Log with Cleo Papanikolas Area: Related Arts Status: Available Workshop ID: t3-102306-art Mon Oct 23, 2006 7-9:30pm; Mon Oct 30, 2006 7-9:30pm; Mon Nov 06, 2006 7-9:30pm $120 plus $10 materials fee Your culinary log could be a well-worn notebook filled with secret recipes, future menus and memories of feasts in distant lands. In this content-focused class, you'll design your own personal blend of the book arts and food writing to document your edible adventures. The class will begin with discussion using examples from sketchbooks, journals, travelogs, scrapbooks and cookbooks. Cleo will break down food writing into bite-sized categories: recipes, reviews, menus and entertaining, memoir, kitchen experiments. Then, she'll show tracing and painting techniques used in her book Cook Until Tenderness. We'll borrow a term used in restaurant cooking, mise en place, which refers to the advance preparation and arrangement of ingredients, and we'll make our own mise en place from art supplies, sketches, bits of collage and stray thoughts. Then we'll get cooking.
