Every books needs a title! In this weeklong intensive, students will learn to title leather-bound books by hand in several different ways. Projects and demonstrations will include titling books historically with misaligned handle letters; aligned titling with handle letters on spines and flat surfaces; titling using brass type in type-holders done blind, in gold, and with foil. Type, layout, and the theory behind the many styles of titling will be discussed throughout the week.

No hot stamping machines will be used in this workshop.

This workshop is for both the novice and the practitioner who wants to extend their hands to be able to title with them. 


Materials to Bring: Optional and available at SFCB for student use during workshop: spring dividers, gold cushion, gold knife.

Optional: #1 Rapidograph pen.

Workshop Fee (includes $175 materials fee): $950.00*

About the Instructor | Samuel Feinstein

Samuel Feinstein trained formally at the North Bennet Street School program under Jeff Altepeter and Martha Kearsley.  Since graduating in 2012 he has been in private practice specializing in fine bindings, luxury clamshell boxes, new bindings in period style, and gold finishing for other binders.  His work can be seen on his website: www.SamuelFeinsteinBookbinding.com
