Working from pre-cut materials students will learn three simple enclosures: Folded Paper Portfolio, Phased Box, & Slipcase. Students will be guided through the various design, construction, applications, pros, cons, and special options for each structure.
Critical skills covered include:
- Scaling from object to enclosure
- Box Construction and Covering
- Scoring and Folding Paper
- Options for combining and augmenting these basic structures
Materials to Bring: Optional and available at SFCB for use during class: X-acto knife, glue brush, bone folder, straight edge, scissors.
Workshop Fee (includes $25 materials fee): $190.00

About the Instructor | Andy Rottner
Andy Rottner is an artist, bookbinder, and the co-founder of Super Classy Publishing. In addition to providing commercial bookbinding and box-making services to artists and institutions; Super Classy publishes artist-books, printed and bound-by hand in Vallejo California. Super Classy's ongoing Sixty-Nine Thirty-Two Artist Book Series features, painting, drawing, poetry, printmaking, collage, fine-art photography and short fiction by a wide range of artists. Andy has a BFA from Wittenberg University & an MFA from San Francisco Art Institute.
