Voice from the Fire: a Community Reading

  • San Francisco Center for the Book 375 Rhode Island Street San Francisco, CA, 94103 United States (map)

This one-hour performance reading piece was originally performed by Betsy Davids and James Petrillo from 1983 to 2016. For The Joyful Body of the Word, the script of the much-loved Rebis Press piece about the life and work of the 18th-century art couple William Blake and Kate Blake will be voiced for the first time by multiple readers, reopening “Voice from the Fire” to new dialogues and voices. We will sit together and read aloud to each other, accompanied by a few images from Blake’s work. Attendees will be welcome to volunteer as readers or to listen.

RSVP is required for this event; seats are limited and names will be checked at the door. If the event is full, you will be placed on a wait list. Should seats become available, SFCB staff will contact wait list registrants in the order they signed up.

Wednesday, October 28, 2026

6-8 pm; reading starts promptly at 6:30 pm.
Attendees who arrive late will be admitted at the discretion of SFCB staff.

Location: SFCB, 375 Rhode Island Street, SF CA 94103
