Workshop Policies
Registration
Waitlists
Workshops require a minimum number of students in order to run, therefore we encourage students to register early. Workshops are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. You may register online (preferred), by phone, or in person. You will receive an email when your registration is fully paid and complete. The workshop fee covers one adult student (18+) unless otherwise specified. Please do not bring any additional people to class with you; they will be asked to leave.
SFCB in person workshops are hosted at our Rhode Island Street facility. SFCB does not accept walk-ins to workshops; pre-registration is required. SFCB offers three terms per year: January-April, May-August, and September-December. The Bookbinding and Letterpress Core workshop series are offered each term.
Students and instructors are welcome to wear or forego masks as they prefer.
We maintain waitlists for certain workshops. If a workshop is full, please add yourself to the waitlist via the website. Students on the waitlist will be contacted via email if space becomes available. We ask that waitlisted students not show up for a workshop unless they’ve been notified that there is room for them. We do not allow audits or observers, either paid or unpaid.
Workshop Cancellations
Student cancellations:
SFCB does not issue refunds. Cancellations will receive workshop credit if you cancel seven (7) or more business days before your workshop.
If you cancel 2-7 days before your workshop, no credit will be issued unless a waitlist has been established and another student can take your place. Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice will not receive credit.
If you are having an emergency, please contact us. No-shows (no call or email notice) will not receive accommodations. Credit expires six months after the issue date.
If SFCB cancels a workshop:
Registered students will be notified if a workshop is at risk of cancellation due to low enrollment one week before the start date. If the workshop is cancelled, students will be given two days' notice of cancellation. If you are traveling to SFCB, please feel free to check in with us prior to finalizing your travel arrangements. If we cancel the workshop due to low enrollment, we will move you into the next available date for that workshop, or issue you a credit or refund at your request.
Absence Policy for Multi-Session Workshops
SFCB does not offer make-up sessions for any missed workshop days. If a student misses a workshop session, they need to make up what was missed in that session by scheduling a private lesson before the next session of the workshop. Requests for private lessons should be sent to workshops@sfcb.org; the original workshop fee does not cover private sessions. Students missing workshop sessions without private make-up sessions for any Core Curriculum workshop will not receive certification or be able to rent studio time.
Accommodations
If you are a person with a disability and require a reasonable accommodation to participate in a program, service or activity, or require documents in alternative formats, please contact Sarah Songer at 415-565-0545 x 103 or email at workshops@sfcb.org. We request at least 14 business days advance notice before the accommodation will be needed.
Studio Rentals, Groups & Tours

Studio Rental Policies
You must book in advance using the calendar at SFCB.org/studio-and-equipment-rentals. You will receive two emails: one that confirms your reservation request and one that confirms we have accepted your request. The studio can be a busy place, your rental time slot includes any set-up and clean up. Overstaying a rental time slot may incur additional fees.
Rental fees are non-refundable. If you need to reschedule your appointment, please email info@sfcb.org with at least 24 hours notice. Refer to the studio rental scheduling calendar to select an alternative date.
When you arrive for your studio rental, you must check in with the front desk and check out when you leave.
SFCB's studios are a community space where respect and accountability are of the utmost importance. You are responsible for leaving the space cleaner than you found it and reporting any equipment issues. You can email info@sfcb.org, or speak directly to a member of staff. For safety and maintenance reasons, it is very important that you only use equipment you have been thoroughly trained to use. In addition, you must sign a waiver before you begin your rental. Guests and visitors are not allowed.
